The Environmental Dictionary EnDic covers a wide field of environmental protection and nature conservation - e.g. such fields as meteorology, hydrology, environmental engineering, water supply and wastewater treatment, waste management and the environmental policy of EU.
The total number of searchwords in various languages amounts now to 90 000. About 2000 entries are furnished with definitions in English, Estonian and Finnish.
In 2009 Endic has been extended with the meteorological dictionary MetDic. The MetDic is based on the printed dictionary Ilmatieteellinen Käsitesanakirja which was published in 1995 by the Finnish Meteorological Institute. MetDic contains 9000 terms in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The electronic dictionary is based on the Environmental Dictionary EnDic2004. It was published by the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and partly funded by the Ministry of the Environment.
The dictionary is an excellent tool for scientists, students, translators and others whose work has an international dimension.
