Research Programme for Biodiversity 2002-2009

Loss of biodiversity is one of the most urgent environmental problems today. Research Programme for Biodiversity (LTO) produces knowledge basis for implementation and follow-up of EU's objectives in halting biodiversity loss by 2010. Programme supports the implementation of the national action plan for biodiversity (2007-2016).

Research programme for biodiversity aims to increase knowledge on the occurrence and habitat demands of natural species, to study changes  in the amounts and quality of valuable habitats, and to analyze factors that threaten biodiversity. The focus is especially on the study and appraisal of the relationships between biodiversity, landscape structure, land use and climate change and on the study of restoration and management of different biotopes. The relations between biodiversity and socio-economical changes in society are also addressed.
