Publications

Finland’s environmental administration regularly publishes research results and reports, through two publications series: The Finnish Environment and Environmental Administration Guidelines.

In addition to these, the environmental administration publishes Environmental Guides and the individual organisations publish a series called Reports. They include briefings, working group memorandums, reviews and reports. The Reports series published by the former Regional Environment Centres were discontinued at the end of 2009 when Regional Environment Centres' tasks were transferred to the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment under the reform of regional State administration that came into force on 1 January 2010.

Eight Finnish research institutes and organisations jointly publish the international interdisciplinary journal Boreal Environment Research. An increasing number of scientific articles are also nowadays published through other international forums.

Finland’s regional environmental administration produces booklets and leaflets covering environmental issues. Major publications produced jointly within the administration may be purchased in Finland from Edita Publishing, but booklets and brochures produced by individual authorities should be ordered directly from the authority concerned. Sales abroad are limited.

Finland’s environmental administration produces a wide range of publications of interest to everyone concerned about the environment. An increasing number of publications are available in electronic format. Information about specific publications is available in the publications sections of the web pages of the authority or department concerned. Publications kept in the libraries run by the environmental administration may also be borrowed by post.

The environmental administration also regularly publishes two periodicals in Finnish:

Ympäristö (Environment) covers a wide range of environmental issues, examining many aspects of the state of the environment, environmental problems, the latest research results and environmental work in practice.

Asu ja Rakenna (Live and build) is published by the Ministry of the Environment, and covers issues related to housing policies, construction and planning.
