LUMONET

 

 

LUMONET is the Finnish Clearing-House Mechanism of the Convention on Biological Diversity. It is an Internet-based biodiversity information system.

LUMONET is mainly about Finland. If you want to learn more about the Convention and global biodiversity issues, check out the European Community Clearing-House Mechanism (EC CHM) and the global Clearing-House Mechanism.

LUMO is an abbreviation of "luonnon monimuotoisuus", which is Finnish for Nature's Diversity.

CURRENT

New National Biodiversity Strategy for Finland. The Council of State approved the national strategy for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity in Finland in its decision-in-principle in December 2012. The strategy covers the years 2012-2016. 

The national strategy was revised to adapt to the descisions of COP 10 of the Convention of Biological Diversity and the EU 2020 Biodiversity Strategy.

Councellor Marina von Weissenberg from the Finnish Ministry of the Environment has been elected Vice-President of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for the period 2013-2106.

The Barents Protected Area Network's (BPAN) website. The BPAN project is running from 2011 to 2013. It is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, governments of Finland, Sweden and Norway, and the WWF Barents Office with self funding from the regions.

Welcome to NatureGate and its services that enable you to enjoy and learn about nature in Finland, plants, birds, fish and butterflies. You can even identify plants with an identifying tool. NatureGate has been chosen one of 20, from over 1,000 best biodiversity acts made in 2010. It competes of the Countdown 2010 Biodiversity Award, which will be granted 20/10/2010 at 20:10 in Nagoya at the CBD COP10 meeting.

BISE the Biological Information System for Europe has been opened in the web. It is a portal that brings together facts and figures on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
