Chemicals requiring authorisation

Finnish chemicals legislation requires authorization for the marketing and use of certain chemicals.

The import and export of  banned or severely restricted chemicals requires permission from SYKE according to the PIC (Prior Informed Consent) procedure. Also the use of chemical agents in oil spill response operations requires a permit from SYKE.

The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) is responsible for the authorisation of biocides, antifouling products, slimicides, wood preservatives and biocidal pesticides. Tukes together with municipal authorities grants permits for the handling and storage of hazardous chemicals. Permission for the import and export of ozone-depleting substances requires permission from the EC Commission.
