Environmental Strategy of Northern Ostrobothnia 2005–2015
To quality environment by dynamic co-operation
Environmental Strategy of Northern Ostrobothnia 2005–2015 is the first comprehensive strategy in Northern Ostrobothnia aiming to improve the state of environment and sustainable development. Wide range of regional authorities, research institutions, municipalities, non-governmental-organizations and enterprises has been taking part the preparation process of the strategy.
- The main themes of the regional environmental strategy are:
environmental research, - technology, - education and - awareness
- residential environment of good quality
- improvement of the state of environment
- biodiversity.
The themes include goals and methods for the following ten years. The next step is to create a monitoring system for the environmental strategy. 20–30 indicators will be chosen for the purpose by the end of the year 2006.
The environmental strategy has been published in September 2005 in Finnish both as a brochure and as a PDF-version on the Internet.
Environmental Agreement
The strategy was established by a voluntary regional environmental agreement, The Environmental Agreement of Northern Ostrobothia, signed by almost 60 organizations of the area.
The agreement consists of
- a common will to develop the quality of the environment in Northern Ostrobothnia by co-operation
- a promise to develop sustainable development more effectively.
The Environmental Strategy is also mentioned to be the basis for the environmental co-operation and the environmental state monitoring in the agreement.
