Pirkanmaa
The reform of regional State administration was carried out on 1/1/2010. The tasks of former Pirkanmaa Regional Environment Centre have been transferred to the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa. Responsibility for environmental permits now falls to the Regional State Administrative Agencies.
The Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa works in the Tampere Region, which is the second largest region by population in Finland. Our work in environmental matters is supervised by the Ministry of the Environment and also partly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The office is located in the centre of the city of Tampere.
Our tasks are
- sustainable development coordination
- environmental impact assessment
- evaluation of environmental policy instruments
- environmental risk management
- environmental protection
- guidance of sustainable community development and infrastructure
- guidance of sustainable use of natural resources
- biodiversity protection
In addition to regional tasks the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Pirkanmaa has also a national task. It is the national authority responsible for producer responsibility in waste management in Finland - with the exception of the autonomous Åland Island.
