Official site of the 11th meeting of the Conference of Parties to be held in Hyderabad, India, from 8 to 19 October 2012.

 

 

 

The decade 2010–2020 has been declared International Decade of Biodiversity by the UN.

The Convention

The Convention on Biological Diversity was opened for signing at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1992. The convention has 193 parties and 168 countries have signed it. 80 parties (41%) have a CHM web site.

There are 194 independent states on six continents. 192 countries are member states of the United Nations. (2010).

The United Nations proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biodiversity (IBD) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
