Public Education and Awareness

The protection and sustainable use of biodiversity cannot succeed, unless people have enough basic knowledge about nature, genuine interest in it and a personal relationship to nature. In addition to that the intrinsic value of biodiversity has to be understood and its value to the humankind appreciated. It is one the greatest educational challenges of our age to meet these demands.

Maintaining the biological diversity should be based on wide support of the citizens and on shared responsibility. Incorporating the principles of protection and sustainable use of biodiversity into all fields of education can offer better chances of creating new jobs in environmental care and developing environmental technology fit for marketing.
