SEABASED - new measures to alleviate the internal loading in the sea

The Finnish-Swedish joint project SEABASED (Seabased Measures in Baltic Sea Nutrient Management) aims to alleviate the harmful consequences of human-induced eutrophication in coastal areas of the Baltic Sea. New sea-based measures to reduce the internal phosphorus loading, will be piloted in the coastal waters of SW Finland, Åland and Sweden. Some of the measures can also support the circular economy by recycling nutrients from the sea to the land. The objective of the project is, moreover, to engage various stakeholders of society in an open dialogue on the benefits and risks of the measures, and their applicability for the Baltic Sea.
